Attorney Ricardo Polk of Decatur, GA; ethical misfit

The state of Georgia presented Ricardo L. Polk with a law license in 2004 after he graduated from Howard University Law School.

The Georgia State Bar found Ricardo guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Ricardo was hired in connection with three traffic citations his client received in three different Georgia counties as was paid $500 by the client.

Ricardo filed documents in two of the counts, resolved one of those cases a month later and the following month submitted a proposed plea agreement in the second. However, Ricardo did not file any documents in the third county.

Before the client filed a grievance against Ricardo, he asked him to refund his fees and pay costs that the client incurred in reinstating his driver’s license. Ricardo agreed to pay the client $708.50 but laughingly claimed he couldn’t due to his license being suspended for failure to pay child support.

Ricardo the Comedian agreed to pay the client $50 a month until the $700 was paid, meaning he demanded that the client wait 14 months to be paid in full.

In another matter, Ricardo was hired to represent a client in a domestic relations case and was paid $1,500. Subsequently, the client became frustrated with the level of communication with Ricardo and the pace of her case. After she fired Ricardo, she demanded a refund of unearned fees, which led to Ricardo paying her with a bad check.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Georgia Supreme Court punished Ricardo by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. August 2013), Ricardo practices with the Polk Law Firm LLC at 315 West Ponce De Leon Avenue in Decatur, Georgia.
