Attorney John Kern of Charleston, SC; ethical dwarf

The State of South Carolina presented John B. Kern with a law license in 1994 after he graduated from Willamette University Law School.

Disciplinary Counsel of the South Carolina Supreme Court found John guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Commingled client funds with personal funds
  2. Failed to properly safeguard client funds
  3. Failed to inform client how much of the retainer had been earned
  4. Failed to promptly return unearned fees to client
  5. Failed to cooperate with disciplinary authority (Up Yours, said Johnny!)
In one matter, a client retained John and paid him a $20,000 retainer; however, John failed to deposit the $20,000 into a client trust account as required. Instead, John deposited the funds into his general office operating account.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme Court punished John by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. August 2013), John practices with John B. Kern International Law, LLC at 180 East Bay Street in Charleston, South Carolina.
