Attorney James Lane of Portland, OR; ethical dwarf

The state of Oregon provided James L. Lane with a law license in 1983.

The Oregon State Bar found James guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, James met with an established client, Trevor Smith and his business associate, John Olsen. Smith hired Amber draft a promissory note from Smith in favor of a company, Jaychem. Previously, Jaychem had loaned Smith $250,000 at 6% interest. Amber drafted the promissory note as asked. James also drafted a letter transmitting the note to Jaychem.

Shortly after Smith executed the note, Smith advised James that the actual amount of the loan was $390,000. Smith then asked James to prepare a new note and to backdate it, which James did even though he knew it was an illegal act.

As a consequence of hid misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Oregon Supreme Court punished James by gifting him with a complimentary 30-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. August 2013) James practices with Parker Butte & Lane PC at 1336 East Burnside Street in Portland, Oregon.
