Attorney Eva Ritter of Woodbury, MN; repeat offender

The state of Wisconsin presented Eva E. Ritter with a law license in 1993 after she graduated from Hamline University Law School.

The Office of Lawyer Registration found Eva guilty of the following misconduct.

The Wisconsin Public Defender’s Office appointed Eva to represent a criminal defendant. Eva hired a third party (the preparer) to prepare an independent presentence investigation (PS) report concerning her client.

The preparer completed the report and sent it to Ritter along with a $1,500 invoice for services provided. Evan then submitted to Public Defender’s Office an invoice, which included amounts for her own fee and the preparer’s fee. Subsequently, Evan received a check that covered her fee and the fee of the preparer.

Although the check represented funds belonging to a third party (the preparer), Evan failed to deposit the funds into her trust account. She also failed to notify the preparer of her receipt of the funds.

Evan then endorsed the check, deposited into her business account, and used the funds for personal expenses. The prepared later sought payment from Evan, who promised to pay, but did not. Subsequently, the preparer sued Evan in small claims court and obtained a judgment against her.

As a consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wisconsin Supreme Court punished Eva by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

As one would suspect, this wasn’t Eva’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. Evan previously received a complimentary reprimand from the comedians sitting on the Wisconsin Supreme Court for engaging in a variety of misconduct.

As we speak (ca. July 2013), Eva practices in the Woodbury, Minnesota area.
