Attorney Corecia Woo of Auburn, CA; repeater, Dumbo

The state of California provided Corecia Joy Woo with a law license in 1989 after he graduated from Western State University Law College.

The State Bar Court found Woo guilty of the following misconduct on two separate occasions.

Woo’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

In one matter, Woo represented a client in a divorce case until the case became inactive.

When the client fired and asked for a refund of unearned fees, Woo did not respond. The client then won a small claims judgment against Woo, but Wood asked that it be vacated when she claimed she was not properly served with the lawsuit and that she had already repaid the client.

When the State Bar sent Wood letters of inquiry, she falsely said she had refunded the fee. Making matters worse, Wood also created a phony check stub that her lawyer sent to the bar as proof that she had refunded the money to her client.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the supporters for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Bar Court punished Woo by gifting her with a complimentary 90-days suspension of her law license.

Woo’s 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  1. Failed to provide competent representation (Dumbo)
  2. Failed to account for client funds
  3. Failed to respond to client inquiries
  4. Withdrew representation without protecting clients’ interests
  5. Disobeyed a court order
  6. Failed to pay court ordered sanctions
In one matter, Woo represented the husband in a divorce case. She failed to respond to opposing party’s interrogatories and told her client she would no longer represent him. Woo refunded $1,000 to the client; however, she did not refund his full fee and costs or return his file for several months.

In another matter, Woo filed a personal injury case on behalf of a client but then did not contact the insurance company or appear at a court ordered case management conference or an order to show cause hearing, which resulted in the client’s case being dismissed. Woo then failed to inform her client of the dismissal.

In another family matter, wood received a $2,500 advance fee; however, she later failed to account for fees and failed to refund unearned fees.

In a different personal injury case, Woo took on the client’s behalf for over and allowed the statute of limitations to expire thereby destroying her client’s claims.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the supporters for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Bar Court punished Woo by gifting her with a complimentary stayed 5-year suspension of her law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Bar Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Woo.

As we speak (ca. June 2013) Woo practices with the Law Offices of Corecia J. Woo in Auburn, California, which is in the Sacramento area.
