Attorney J. Manuel Raneda of Milwaukee; crook, loser
The state of Wisconsin presented J. Manuel Raneda with a law license in 2002 after he graduated from Marquette University Law School.
The Office of Lawyer Regulation (OLR) found Manuel guilty of the following misconduct
In one matter, Manuel defended a client in an eviction action brought by a landlord. During the litigation, the trial court ordered Manuel’s client to deposit unpaid rental payments into Manuel’s trust account and to leave the money there until further order of the court.
Despite multiple declarations in affidavits, and filings with the court, and argument that his client had in fact deposited the funds into his trust account and that the funds remained in the account, Manuel had previously withdrawn the funds to pay himself attorney fees, in direct contravention of the court’s order.
In another matter, Manuel agreed to represent the buyer of a home who claimed the sellers made deceptive and misleading statements in connection with the sale. After accepting a $5,000 advance fee, Manuel wrote a demand letter and performed some research into the matter. However, he subsequently failed to take any further action in the case.
As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wisconsin Supreme Courts punished Manuel by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.
As we speak (ca. June 2013), Manuel practices with the Law Offices of J. Manuel Raneda LLC at 1626 North Prospect Avenue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
