President Reagan was duped into appointing Edith to sit on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeal in early 1985.
Edith didn’t obtain the nomination because she was the most qualified attorney in Texas. She received it because she proved to the local political hacks that she was a reliable right-wing zealot who could be relied on to do the right thing.
In an ongoing effort to cement her status as one of the Federal Judiciaries Premier Racists and Bigots, Judge Jones spewed forth the following racist comments while speaking to students at the University of Pennsylvania law school in February 2013.
Defendant’s claims of racism, innocence, arbitrariness, and violations of international law and treaties are just ‘red herrings’ used by opponents of the death penalty
Claims of ‘mental retardation’ by capitol defendants disgust her
The fact that defendants convicted of a capitol crime is sufficient to prove they are not ‘mentally retarded’
A death sentence provides a service to capital-case defendants because they are likely to make peace with God only just before their execution
Mexican prefer to be on death row in the U.S. then serve prison terms in their native country
Based on her disgusting racist comments, groups including the Mexican Capital Legal Assistance Program, the League of United Latin American Citizens, the Texas Civil Right s Project, the NAACP in Austin and the Nat’l Bar Association’s Houston affiliate filed an ethics complaint against Edith the Bigot.
Unfortunately, Edith is comfortable in the knowledge that her like minded brothers and sisters sitting on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans aren’t going to impose any meaningful punishment for her egregious conduct.
In fact, the only real punishment would be for Congress to initiate impeachment proceedings. Of course that will never happen, especially when Edith’s supporters in Congress are hell-bent on impeaching that feller (wink, wink) sitting in the oval office.
At a minimum, Chief Justice John Roberts should issue an order prohibiting Judge Jones from sitting on any cases involving African-Americans or Hispanics as criminal defendants and/or as parties in any civil matter.
If Judge Jones had a modicum of decency, she would permanently retire from the bench. After 28 years on the bench, she’s entitled to a lifetime pension of $184,500 plus health insurance and $30,000 a year in Social Security benefits.
If the $215,000 a year isn’t sufficient, I’m sure she’d be able to knock down a million or more a year as a pundit for the Fox News Comedy Hour. Fox is always looking for another unbalanced comic to put forth unfair reports.
And if that doesn’t pan out, Edith can apply for a job as legal advisor for the Texas branch of the United White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.
Congrats Edith; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of America’s Premier “Bigots”; you are far too humble.
