Attorney Benjamin Whitfield, Jr. of Detroit; ethical dwarf

The state of Michigan provided Benjamin Whitfield Jr. with a law license in 1973 after he graduated from Texas Southern University Law School.

A disciplinary hearing panel found Benjamin guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Ben was hired to represent a client in a personal injury case. Subsequently, the case was settled for $2,500.

Ben agreed to pay his client’s medical provider $666 from the settlement proceeds; however, he failed to promptly deliver the funds to the provider. Making matters worse, Ben then commingled his personal funds with his client’s funds.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers sitting on the Michigan Supreme Court punished Benjamin by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. May 2013) Benjamin practices with Benjamin Whitfield Jr. & Associates at 547 East Jefferson Avenue in Detroit, Michigan.
