Attorney Kai Lassen of Wilmington, DE; serial thief
The state of Delaware presented Kai Lassen with a law license in 1967 after he graduated from Yale University Law School.
The Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) found Kai guilty of the following misconduct.
Kai found it acceptable to bilk his clients by billing them for personal expenses that were totally unrelated to client business. In some instances, Kai disguised the personal expenses on client billing statements, so that it would appear the expenses were legitimate client incurred legal expenses such as photocopies.
One of Kai’s falsified bills was included in a sworn fee application that he filed with the bankruptcy court. Kai also billed certain clients (victims) for substantial amounts of legal work that he never performed.
Kai’s Hyperbolic (BS) Defenses
Kai had the chutzpah to argue before the Disciplinary Board he did not intend to defraud his clients even though he admitted that the charges against him doing so were true.
Clearly, Kai missed his calling as a standup comedian.
As a consequence of his most recent misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Delaware Supreme Court punished Kai by gifting him with a complimentary 3-year suspension of his law license.
Because Attorney Misfits in Delaware are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Kai was never criminally charged for theft, fraud or obstruction of justice in filing a false claim for fees with the bankruptcy court.
As we speak (ca. April 2013) Kai practices at 1000 North West Street in Wilmington, Delaware.
