Attorney Oliver Suddard of Wilmington, DE; convicted criminal

Unfortunately, the state of Delaware presented Oliver V. Suddard with a law license in 1950 after he graduated from Duke University Law School.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel found Ollie guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Ollie had previously been arrested at his Wilmington office and charged with several criminal counts, including one felony (viz. sexual extortion).

A criminal charge of "sexual extortion" would leave one to reasonably conclude that Ollie had issued threats against one or more of his female employees in an attempt to force them to have sex with him. This is merely specualtion because the online report by the Office of Disciplinary Counsel does not specify the exact conduct that Ollie engaged in that led to him being charged with a felony charge of "sexual extortion."

All the criminal charges lodged against Ollie were based upon his conduct involving certain of his female employees on the premises of his law office.

Subsequently, Ollie plead nolo contendere to one misdemeanor count, with the other criminal counts being dropped by the Department of Justice. He was then sentenced to 30 days in jail, with 20 days of the sentence suspended.

Pleading nolo contendere (no contest) is a means by which a defendant in a criminal prosecution accepts conviction as though he/she had pled guilty but does not admit guilt. In many instances, the nolo contendere plea is entered to give the criminal the opportunity to laughingly claim he wasn’t guilty if he faces civil liability for his conduct.

As a direct consequence of his disgusting misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Delaware Supreme Court punished John by gifting him with a complimentary 3-year suspension of his law license .

As we speak (ca. May 2013) Ollie practices at 8 East 13th Street in Wilmington, Delaware
