Attorney Richard Groves of Phoenix; repeat offender

The state of Arizona presented Richard N. Groves with a law license in 1973after he graduated from Creighton University Law School.

The Arizona State Bar found Richard guilty of engaging in misconduct on two (2) separate occasions as set forth below.

Richard’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

At the time of his misconduct, Richard was employed as a County Attorney for Santa Cruz County. As county attorney, Richard was legal advisor to the Board of Supervisors. Richard filed criminal charges against three board members for allegedly violating the open meeting law.

Richard filed the criminal complaints without ever considering its impact on the attorney/client relationship he had with the board. Obviously, Richard didn’t do well at Creighton Law School in comprehending what the term “conflict of interest” meant.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders of Attorney Misfits sitting on the Arizona Supreme Court punished Richard by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

Richard’s 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree
  1. Failed to consult with client to afford client to make informed decisions re: representation
  2. Failed to communicate with clients
  3. Charged a clearly excessive fee (cheater)
  4. Asserted claim or defense he knew or should have known was inaccurate
  5. Made a false statement of material fact to a tribunal
  6. Failed to properly supervise non-attorney
  7. Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  8. Failed to deposit client funds in client trust accounts
  9. Failed to provide competent representation (moron)
  10. Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
In one matter, Richard collected attorney’s fees from numerous judgment debtors when he received garnishment funds based upon improper statements of account he submitted to the garnishees. Richard also signed and filed a satisfaction of judgment without his client’s consent.

In a bankruptcy matter, Richard failed to consult with his client (victim) before he advised an attorney for one of the creditors that he would not oppose a particular motion. Richard also failed to attend or notify his client of the hearing on that motion. As a result of Richard’s gross incompetence and negligence, a default judgment was entered against his client at that hearing.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints of Attorney Misfits sitting on the Arizona Supreme Court punished Richard by gifting him with a second (2nd) complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. February 2013) Richard practices at 4045 East Union Hills Drive in Phoenix, Arizona.

Warning: Richard doesn’t carry legal malpractice insurance
