Attorney Valerie Fox of Dover, DE; cheater

The state of Delaware presented Valerie Fox with a law license in 1987.

The Delaware Supreme court found Valerie guilty of the following misconduct in regards to collecting a clearly excessive fee.

In one matter, Valerie was hired to represent a client who was rendered a quadriplegic as the result of an auto accident. Valerie’s original fee did not include a fee for assistance in recovering uncontested personal injury protection ("PIP") benefits.

The insurer that insured the vehicle did not dispute paying the client the maximum PIP benefits under the policy, which was $100,000.

However, shortly before the insurance company mailed the initial payment of benefits, Valerie persuaded her client to amend the fee agreement so as to apply her 35% contingent fee to the collection of these benefits.

Therefore, Valerie collected $35,000 in fees based on minimal services, which merely involved sending information on lost wages and medical expenses to the insurance company. Put simply, Valerie had the chutzpah to con her client into paying her $35,000 for less than 10 hours of work, which comes out to about $3,500 an hour.

As a consequence of his misconduct, apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Delaware Supreme Court punished Valerie by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. February 2013) Valerie practices in the Dover, Delaware area.
