Attorney Paul Hoffer of Norton, OH; lying loser

The state of Ohio presented Paul Richard Hoffer with a law license in 1985 after he graduated from Akron University Law School.

The Akron Bar Association Grievance Committee found Paul guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Neglected legal matters entrusted to him
  2. Failed to carry out contracts of employment on behalf of clients
  3. Prejudiced or damaged client during course of professional relationship
  4. Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  5. Failed to promptly return client’s files upon request
  6. Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice law
  7. Failed to cooperate with disciplinary authorities (Up Yours, said Paulie!)
In one matter, Paul represented the partners of Didado Energy Systems (DES) in a contract dispute and to institute a replevin action against Lamson & Sessions Co., d.b.a. Kent Machine. Paul filed suit and obtained a court judgment in favor of his client DES, but the judgment was reversed on appeal because the appellate court ruled that the contract dispute was contractually subject to arbitration.

DES then hired Paul to handle the arbitration proceedings. The arbitrator then ordered that if Paul did not file a brief on behalf of DES, the arbitration would be dismissed. Paul didn’t notify DES or its partners that he had not filed the required brief.

Two months later, the American Arbitration Association (AAA) told Paul that the case would be closed unless it was advised otherwise in ten days. Paul took no action, and AAA then notified him that the case had been dismissed due to his inaction. Paul did not inform DES or its partners of the dismissal. When Gary Didado, one of the DES partners, contacted Paul, he falsely told him that “things were progressing.”

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Paul by gifting him with a complimentary 180-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. January 2013) Paul practices at 3070-B Wadsworth Road in Norton, Ohio.
