Attorney Sheri Holda of Uniontown, OH; deadbeat scofflaw

The state of Ohio presented Sheri Lynn Holda with a law license in 2001 after she graduated from Akron University Law School.

The Akron Bar Association Grievance Committee found Sheri guilty of the following misconduct.

Patricia L. Hill hired Sheri to represent her in a domestic relations matter. Patricia paid Sheri a $2,000 cash retainer, but Sheri failed to deposit the money into an interest bearing trust account as required.

At the disciplinary hearing Sheri testified that she kept Patricia’s $2,000 cash payment in a lock box at her home in order to keep the funds separated from her personal business account. This claim doesn’t pass the involuntary laugh test.

During the time she represented Patricia; Sheri repeatedly failed to return her phone calls and did not appear for two scheduled appointments at her office. Subsequently, Patricia fired Sheri and asked for a refund of her $2,000 retainer and the return of her file.

Sheri promised to return the retainer and the case file, and she promptly provided Patricia with a $2,000 check, which was drawn on Sheri’s business account rather than a client trust account. When Patricia tried to cash the $2,000 check, it bounced. Patricia then called Sheri to complaint about the rubber check. Sheri told her to present the check to the bank a second time. When Patricia did so, the check bounced again.

Because Attorney Misfits in Ohio are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Sheri was never criminally prosecuted for writing bad checks.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Sheri by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. January 2013) Sheri practices with Holda Legal & Mediation Services at 1699 King Drive in Uniontown, Ohio.
