Attorney Julius Amourgis of Akron; ethical elf

The state of Ohio presented Julius Peter Amourgis with a law license in 1998 after he graduated from Akron University Law School.

The Akron Bar Association Grievance Committee found Julius guilty of the following misconduct.

In an effort to drum up some business, Julius began soliciting business by sending letters to persons named as defendants in domestic-relation cases in Summit County. Julius directed his non-attorney employee, Charles Buchanan to review court dockets to obtain the names and addresses of defendants in such cases and then sent each defendant a form letter that had a copy of Julius’ signature. Numerous defendants received Julius’ letters before they were even aware that they were a defendant in a divorce action.

In another matter, Julius filed an application with the Secretary of State of Ohio to register the corporate name Phillip Edwards McCormick, P.C., listing himself as the statutory agent for the corporation. For several months, Julius practice law under the law firm name of Phillip Edwards McCormick, P.C. However, there was no person currently or formerly involved with the law firm with the name of Phillip or Edwards or McCormick.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Julius by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 1-year suspension of his law license. In truth, the comedians sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Julius.

As we speak (ca. January 2013) Julius practices with JP Amourgis & Associates at 3200 West Market Street in Akron, Ohio.
