Attorney William Dawson, Jr. of Belfast, ME; ethical gremlin

The state of Maine presented William L. Dawson with a law license in 1989 after he graduated from the University of Maine Law School.

The Maine Grievance Commission found William guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  2. Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  3. Failed to provide competent representation (moron)
  4. Failed to act with reasonable diligence (slacker)
  5. Failed to communicate with client
  6. Charged an excessive fee
  7. Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Up Yours, said William!)
  8. Failed to promptly turn over client funds to client
  9. Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
In one matter, Heidi Stanley hired William to probate the estate of her deceased domestic partner, Travis Seekin. William then filed an application for Informal Appointment of Personal Representative (PR) with the Waldo County Probate Court asking that Travis’ brother, Earl Seekin, be appointed as PR. The Register of Probate formally declined the appointment. William informed Heidi about the rejection, but failed to explain to her the reason for it or how he planned to proceed. After repeated attempts contact William for status reports on the case went unanswered, Heidi contacted the Probate Court and discovered that William had not filed anything to secure the appointment of a PR after the initial rejection of Earl.

As a consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the grievance panel punished William by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (February 2013) William practices at 326 Lincolnville, Maine.
