Attorney Stephen Watts of Clearwater, FL; ethical misfit

The state of Florida presented Stephen G. Watts with a law license in 1969 after he graduated from Florida State University Law School.

The State Bar of Florida found Stephen guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Stephen represented Mary Alice Worth for almost 40 years during which time they became friends. During those years, Stephen prepared several wills, trusts, and amendments for Ms. Worth. For about eight years before she died, Ms. Worth lived in Morton Plant Hospital Rehabilitation Center. Ms. Worth remained mentally competent and took care of all of her own financial and other affairs without assistance virtually until she died.

Before her death, she called Stephen and asked told him she wished to make some changes to her trust to include him and his wife as beneficiaries. She also told Stephen she intended to make gifts to him and his wife.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Georgia Supreme Court punished Stephen by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. January 2013) Stephen practices at 1221 Turner Street in Clearwater, Florida.
