Attorney James Thomas of Dunedin, FL; ethical misfit

The state of Florida presented James M. Thomas with a law license in 2002 after he graduated from John Marshall Law School.

The State Bar of Florida found David guilty of the following misconduct.

James was hired to represent a client in a divorce action. Shortly after the representation began, Jimmy and the client began a consensual dating arrangement. Although the divorce was finalized within a reasonable time, the client was concerned and filed a grievance with the Florida Bar.

The Florida Bar claimed that James’ representation of the client was affected by the sexual relationship, a fact that Jimmy laughingly denied.

However, there were communication issues between Jimmy and his client that were specifically related to the failed personal relationship.

In lame effort at levity, Jimmy acknowledged that it was a lapse of judgment for him to engage in a sexual affair with a client. Obviously, Jimmy missed his calling as a standup comedian.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Florida Supreme Court punished Brett by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. December 2012) James practices at 1581 Main Street in Dunedin, Florida.
