Attorney Matthew McDowell of Tampa; ethical elf
The state of Florida presented Matthew Kimball McDowell with a law license in 1996.
The State Bar of Florida found Matthew guilty of the following misconduct.
In one matter, Matthew provided a supply of his professional business cares to Orin and Margarita Oppermann, who owned Alpha Omega Bail Bonds. The Oppermans then provided their clients with Matthew’s business cards and referred clients to Matthew. For several years, Matthew’s criminal defendant clients were persons whose bail bonds had been posted by Alpha Omega, a fact well known to Matthew. Of course Matthew knew it was not proper for him to accept clients as a result of referrals from the Oppermans.
In several other cases, Matthew also improperly accepted referrals from the Oppermans. In truth, the Oppermans were acting as pimps (my apologies to ethical pimps) on Matthew’s behalf.
As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Florida Supreme Court punished Matthew by gifting him with a complimentary 10-day suspension of his law license.
As we speak (ca. December 2012) Matthew practices at 2502 Orient Road in Tampa, Florida.
