Today’s “Screwball” Award Winner
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has dedicated the last four (4) years in acting as the Senate’s Obstructer-in-Chief in his zeal to assure that Obama wouldn’t be re-elected and to prevent any legislation from being passed that was or is proposed by Obama.
One of Mitch’s favorite obstructionist tactics in the recent past revolved around raising the nation’s debt ceiling wherein he and his cohort Speaker of the House John “The Bone” Boehner were happy to see the country default on its obligations in order to extort concessions from Obama.
In an ongoing effort to provide us with a repeat performance of his previous conduct, Mitch recently (December 2012) proposed a senate vote on raising the nation’s debt ceiling. Mitch was confident that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would refuse to allow a vote to take place at a time when congress and Obama are facing negotiations over the so-called Fiscal Cliff.
Much to the consternation of Mitch, Harry Reid did in fact announce that he would allow for a vote on raising the debt ceiling. In truth, Harry called Mitch’s bluff!
As soon as Harry made his announcement, Mitch the Obstructionist announced that he would filibuster any attempt by the Democrats to hold such a vote. In other words, Mitch the Screwball stated in no uncertain terms that he would do whatever was necessary to make sure his request for such a vote would never take place.
Clearly Mitch missed his calling as a standup comedian!
Congrats Mitch; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of America’s least appreciated Screwballs; you are far too humble.
