Attorney Eric Hall of Medina, OH; ethical misfit

The state of Ohio presented Eric D. Hall with a law license in 1997 after he graduated from the University of Akron Law School.

The Board on the Unauthorized Practice of Law of the Ohio Supreme Court found Eric guilty of the following misconduct.

Richard and Olajeane Faulkner hired Eric regarding several estate planning matters. The Faulkners owned several farms in Champaign County, Ohio. They were interested in minimizing estate taxes and avoiding probate of their assets.

Eric advised the Faulkners that he was experienced in the area of wills and probate matters. Eric then prepared trusts, wills and a contractual agreement on behalf of the Faulkners, as well as a number of estate planning documents. Subsequently, the Faulkners substitute attorney discovered that the will and trust documents were faulty. The Faulkners paid Eric $23,000 for his so-called services.

Eventually, the Faulkners fired Eric and demanded he return their documents, but he refused to do so until they threatened to file a lawsuit against him.

At the time Eric agreed to represent the Faulkners he was not licensed to practice law in Ohio.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Ohio Supreme Court issued an Order prohibiting Eric from practicing law in Ohio unless and until he obtains a license to practice law in Ohio. A civil penalty of $30,000 was assessed against Eric.

As we speak (ca. December 2012) Eric practices in the Medina, Ohio area.
