Attorney Amy Newby of Jacksonville, FL; forger, thief
The state of Florida provided Amy Elizabeth Newby with a law license in 2003 after she graduated from Florida Coastal Law School.
The Florida State Bar found Amy guilty of the misconduct set for the below. .
Amy’s misconduct involved five different clients. As a result of her mistreatment of her clients, she was ordered to pay restitution to them in the following amounts:
Another matter involved Amy’s paralegal Stephanie Simmons. In late 2009, Amy forged Ms. Simmons signature as the notary on a Durable Power of Attorney Pertaining to Child Custody and Care prepared by Amy to transfer custody of a newborn from the birth mother to relatives willing to raise the child.
As a result of conduct, Amy was charged with three felonies: Fraudulent Use of Personal Identification Information, Forgery, and Grand Theft. As of November 2012, those charges have not been adjudicated.
As a consequence of her misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Florida Supreme Court punished Amy by gifting her with a complimentary 2-year suspension of her law license. The suspension ends on February 11, 2013.
