Attorney Jeffery Boykin of Raleigh, NC; congenital liar

The state of North Carolina presented Jeffery P. Boykin with a law license in 190-.
The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar charged Jeffery with the following misconduct.

A client hired Jeffery to represent him in a personal injury automobile accident matter. The drunk driver was insured by Nationwide Ins. Co.

Subsequently, Jeffery sent a release to Nationwide that released the drunk driver from all liability. Jeffery’s client asked him to pursue his underinsured motorist claim with his insurer which was State Farm. Jeffrey mistakenly sent the release to State Farm that was executed for Nationwide. Several days later, State Farm denied the underinsured coverage for Jeffrey’s client because of the release he sent to them.

Jeffrey never told his client that State Farm had denied his claim. Instead, Jeffery sent his client the “release and covenant” appropriate for his clients case and asked him to sign it and return it to him.

After State Farm denied the client’s claim, he e-mailed Jeffery for an update on his case. Jeffrey failed to respond to the client’s email. Jeffery then falsely led his client to believe that mediation was being scheduled when in fact he had not obtained any of his client’s medical records after he was employed.

Two weeks later, the client e-mailed Jeffery with several questions. Jeffery falsely replied that he was in contact with State Farm and that he would update State Farm on his client’s ongoing medical treatment. The client then fired Jeffery and asked for the return of his file. At this time, the client learned for the first time that his underinsured claim against State Farm had been denied.

As a consequence of his misconduct the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Jeffery by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. November 2012) Jeffery practices at 319 Fayetteville Street in Raleigh, North Carolina.
