Attorney Mark Kiefer of Fort Wayne, IN; unethical loser

The state of Indiana provided Mark Emerson Kiefer with a law license in 1986.

The Indiana Disciplinary Commission found Mark guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Failed to keep client informed about status of legal matter
  2. Failed to comply with client requests for information
  3. Failed to explain matter to client to permit client to make informed decisions about representation
In one matter, Mark was appointed by the Public Defender’s Office to serve as appellate counsel for a defendant. Mark never advised his new client that he was representing her. He filed a appeal brief before the Court of Appeals on her behalf without ever communicating with her.

The client repeatedly contacted the Public Defender’s Office, trying to learn the identify of her attorney. After the trial court judge advised her of Mark’s appointment, she wrote letters to him asking for information regarding her appeal. Mark never replied, and later failed to advise her that the Court of Appeals affirmed her conviction.

As a consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Indiana Supreme Court punished Mark by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. November 2012) Mark practices with the Kiefer Law Office at 202 West Berry Street in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
