Attorney Van H. Johnson of Elizabeth City, NC; serial offender

The state of North Carolina presented Van H. Johnson with a law license in 2002.

The North Carolina State Bar charged Van with misconduct on at least three (3) occasions.

Van’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree – 2001

Van represented Ami Pearse in a domestic (family law) case. Van had sexual relations with Ami on the first day that he conferred with her. Van contended the relationship was consensual during the time he represented Ami.

Van was well aware that having sexual relations with a client was forbidden by the rules government attorney conduct.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Commission punished Van by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

Van’s 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree – 2007

In this matter, Van originally represented a lady regarding her marital problems. She specifically asked Van about taking her children out-of-state, which led him to give her advice on the topic.

Subsequently, Van began to represent his client’s ex-husband regarding custody issues. Van pursued an ex parte custody order against his prior client wherein he cited he flight with the children to another state. This was to say the least an egregious conflict of interest, something Van the Moron apparently was unable to appreciate.

Van knowingly lied to the disciplinary committee when he falsely claimed that he contacted the North Carolina Bar to obtain an ethics opinion regarding the apparent conflict of interest. In truth, Van the Liar contacted the Bar about a totally different matter.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Commission punished Van by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

Van’s 3rd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree – 2011

Van was hired by a gentleman to represent him in a divorce action. The wife’s attorney gave notice to Van that he was going to take his client’s deposition. Due to Van’s claims that his client could not appear, the wife’s attorney set another date for the deposition.

Van the Moron never told his client that his wife’s attorney had provided him with notice to take his deposition. As a result of his client’s non-appearance at the deposition, the wife’s attorney filed a motion for monetary sanctions. Subsequently, the court ordered Van’s client to pay $4,463.22 in court ordered sanctions.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Commission punished Van by gifting him with yet another complimentary censure.

As we speak (September 2012) Van practices at 100 East Main Street in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, which is about 45 miles south of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
