The state of Louisiana presented Michael Colwart with a law license in 1969.
 
The Office of Disciplinary Counsel Michael guilty of the following misconduct
  1. Failed to communicate with his client
  2. Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Up Yours, said Michael!)
  3. Failed to promptly return unearned fee (cheater)
  4. Failed to provide competent legal representation (Dufus)
In one matter, Michael was hired by Douglas Carter to handle a post conviction criminal appeal. Mr. Carter’s repeated attempts to contact Michael were ignored. It wasn’t until after Carter filed an ethics complaint that Michael was forced to return $1500 in fees he never earned.
 
As one would expect, this wasn’t Michael’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree as set forth below.
  1. April 1989 – Michael receives complimentary private reprimand
  2. June 1995 – Michael receives complimentary admonition
  3. July 1995 – Michael receives complimentary admonition
  4. August 1995 – Michael receives complimentary admonition
As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Louisiana Supreme Court punished Michael by gifting him with a complimentary 180-day suspension of his law license..
 
As we speak (ca) September 2012) Michael practices at 107 Wilson Street in Franklin, Louisiana.
