Attorney Robert Skousen of San Bernardino; unethical Dumbo

The state of California provided Robert James Skousen with a law license in 1988 after he graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) Law School.

The California Bar Court found Robert guilty to six (6) counts of misconduct in his handling of an estate and two wills, which is as follows:
  1. Made false statements to State Bar investigators
  2. Failed to perform legal services competently (Dumbo)
  3. Represented clients with conflicts of interest
  4. Failed to disclose conflict of interests to clients (victims)
Three children, Alice, Albert and Robert hired Skousen to handle the probate of an estate and two wills. Both wills were set up to place the majority of the family’s assets into a trust for Robert, who is disabled. Subsequently, Skousen established an attorney-client relationship with Robert. When Skousen filed the petition to probate the will, he also filed a “disclaimer,” he had Robert sign that disclaimed his interest in the estate. Skousen didn’t advise Robert to seek independent legal advice before signing the statement forfeiting his interest in his parents’ estate.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the California Bar Court punished Robert by gifting him with a 120-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. August 2012) Robert practices with Skousen & Skousen at 600 North Arrowhead Avenue in San Bernardino, California.
