Attorney John P. Fadden of Chicago; ethical leprechaun

The state of Illinois presented John Patrick Fadden with a law license in 1974.

The Disciplinary Commission found John guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  2. Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  3. Engaged in conduct tending to bring the legal profession into disrepute
  4. Ordering non-lawyer to engage in conduct that violated Rules of Professional Conduct
John represented Bernard and Joanne Semro regarding their wholesale industrial equipment business and various personal matters. John also represented Jomase Sales regarding various corporate matters, including preparing a defined benefit plan. During this time,

Subsequently, Bernard had a stroke and was eventually moved to the Meadowbrook Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Naperville, Illinois. Joanne continued to reside in the Semros’ home in Wheaton. Joanne then told John that she wanted to the entire estate of about $1.5 million to St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Wheaton.

After Joanne was hospitalized, she asked John to prepare to prepare documents naming his as her power-of-attorney and executor of her estate. After he prepared the documents, John took them to the hospital and had Joanne sign them. He then took the documents to his office and instructed his paralegal and law partner to sign as witnesses to Joanne’s signature, which was clearly illegal.
After Joanne passed away, another attorney contacted John to alert him that she would be filing probate papers dealing with Joanne’s estate. At the time, John new that Joanne’s will and appointment of him as executor of her estate were phony because of the false notaries and witness signatures; however, Johnny never advised the probate attorney of these facts.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished John by gifting him with a complimentary with a complimentary 60-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. August 2012) John practices with Tenney E. Bentley LLC at 111 West Washington Street in Chicago, Illinois.
