Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY): Today’s “Screwball” Award Winner

John’s primary occupation before being appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2007 was as a practicing orthopedic physician.

John has spent a great deal of time blaming the lackluster economy on Obama. Apparently, John doesn’t feel it appropriate to blame President Bush for the lousy economy that Obama inherited. Obviously, Obama has made some mistakes in attempting to right the economic ship; however, it cannot be disputed that his job was made much more difficult by policies enacted by President Bush.

In a July 27, 2012 interview with John Stoessel on the Sean Hannity Comedy Hour, John decided it was time to comment on the high rate of unemployment. John went on to make the following laughable comments while being egged on by standup comedian Stoessel.
  1. People are dying because they can’t fund jobs
  2. The EPA is killing people due to its overregulation, which is killing jobs
  3. Because of EPA regulations, job seekers are becoming ill
  4. Under Obama’s leadership the EPA has instituted 1,300 new job killing regulations
  5. Each of the 1,300 EPA regulations cost taxpayers $100 million
In Johnny’s demented mind, millions upon millions of jobs would be created if utilities that burn coal didn’t have to comply with the Clean Air Act.

Johnny claims that the depression and anxiety the unemployed suffer from that results in them becoming seriously and/or deathly ill, is the fault of Obama’s EPA. Of course Johnny doesn’t provide any medical evidence to support his specious claims. Moreover, he didn’t provide the names of any of these alleged victims of the EPA to Stoessel.

For a physician to argue that EPA regulations are making American’s sick and in some instances killing them gives hyperbole (BS) a bad name.

To be fair to Dr. John, maybe we should test his whacky claims by licensing the Rocky Mountain Power Company to build a coal fired electric plant in Casper (Johnny lives in Casper), Wyoming. The license would allow Rocky Mountain Power to avoid compliance with EPA regulations (soot for everyone) and allow it to dump its coal ash in the North Platte River. After a couple of months of operation it would be interesting to see how John’s constituents feel about the dirty air and polluted river. If John’s right, we should see a dramatic decline in the death toll of unemployed victims of the EPA.

Congrats Johnny; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of America’s Premier Screwballs; you are far too humble.
