Attorney Paul Storment, Jr. of Belleville, IL; repeater, cheater

The state of Illinois presented Paul M. Storment, Jr. with a law license in 1963.

The Attorney Registration and Discipline Commission found Paul guilty of misconduct on at least two occasions.

Paul’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

Paul’s law license was suspended for two years for advising a client to testify falsely (subornation of perjury) during a child custody hearing. Based on the same incident Paul was disbarred by the Missouri Supreme Court and by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

Because Attorney Misfits in Illinois are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Paul was never criminally charged for felony subornation of perjury or obstruction of justice.

In this matter, Paul and attorney Scott Rosenblum agreed to represent a Mr. Pleas who was charged in connection with a narcotics conspiracy in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

Paul never disclosed to the client or Rosenblum that he had been disbarred from the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. Paul also didn’t disclose that he had been disbarred by the Missouri Supreme Court.

The client never signed any written agreement disclosing a division of attorney fees between Paul and Rosenblum. Even though Paul kept $18,500 of the total fee paid by Pleas, he did enter an appearance, prepare any pleadings, motions or other documents, or perform any real services on Pleas’ behalf in the criminal case.

Based on this misconduct, the Board ruled that Paul was guilty of:

Engaging in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonest or misrepresentation
Divided a legal fee with another lawyer w/o client’s knowledge or consent
Collected and retained an unearned fee

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished Paulie by gifting with another 2-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. July 2012) Paul practices law at 310 East Washington Street in Belleville, Illinois.
