Attorney Mary Gorecki of Chicago; ethical dwarf

The state of Illinois presented Mary E. Gorecki with a law license in 1991.

Mary’s misconduct came about when it was discovered that she left three messages on a telephone answering machine which falsely indicated that Mike McCoy, the president of the Kane County board could be bribed into providing a county job.

Based on the above conduct, the Disciplinary Commission found Mary guilty of:
  1. Conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  2. Falsely implying an ability to improperly influence a public official
  3. Engaging in conduct that tends to defeat the administration of justice
  4. Engaged in conduct tending to bring the legal profession into disrepute
Mary’s contact regarding a potential bribe involved Jane Morrison and her desire to get a job for her boyfriend Eric O’Neil. Ms. Morrison testified at the disciplinary hearing about Mary’s explanation of how the bribery scheme would work. She said Mary told her that an attorney-client contract would be completed and that a check for 10% to 15% of O’Neil’s annual salary, which was around $4,000 to $6,000 would be written to Mary’s law firm.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished Mary by gifting her with a 4-month suspension of her law license.

As we speak (ca. July 2012) Mary practices law with the Community Relations Service at 230 South Dearborn in Chicago, Illinois.
