Attorney George P. Stanton III of Fairmont, WV; ethical troll
The state of West Virginia presented George P. Stanton III with a law license in 1983 after he graduated from the University of West Virginia School of Law.
The Lawyer Disciplinary Board found Georgie guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.
-
Misconduct involved multiple offense
-
Engaged in obstructive behavior during disciplinary proceedings (Up yours, said Charlie!)
-
Engaged in romantic relationships toward two women (J.L. and K.A.) who were incarcerated at Lakin Correctional Center in West Columbia, West Virginia
-
Georgie was the lawyer for both women and that he deposited money into each woman's prison trust account
-
Improperly provided financial assistance to a client in connection with pending or contemplated litigation
-
Repeatedly gave misleading statements about his legal representation of these women to ethics investigations (Screw you, said Georgie!)
-
Georgie would often deny ever representing an incarcerated woman, but would thereafter admit representing them in some capacity
-
During a sworn statement given to Disciplinary Counsel, George denied representing J.L. as an attorney and insisted he was a friend, saying, “I have never represented her at all other than I did go to that parole hearing with her family
-
Kater in his sworn statement, Georgie admitted to visiting J.L. in a regional jail at some point and signing into the jail as her attorney and discussing a civil rights suit against the jail with J.L. and another prisoner (aka, perjury)
-
Misconduct involved a dishonest or selfish motive
-
Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
-
Refused to acknowledge wrongful nature of his conduct
-
Georgie started a personal relationship with K.A. while she was incarcerated and she was a client in a vulnerable situation
-
Engaged in misconduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the West Virginia Supreme Court punished Georgie by gifting him with a complimentary 3-year suspension of his law license.
And lastly, because Attorney Misfits in West Virginia are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Charlies was never criminally charged with perjury.
As we speak (ca. December 20223), Georgie practices his so-called brand of law with the Law Office of George P. Stanton in Fairmont, West Virginia.
