Attorney Lee Bettis Jr. of New Bern, NC; ethical troll

The state of North Carolina presented Lee W. Bettis Jr. with a law license in 2016 after he graduated from the Brooklyn School of Law.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Lee guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Signed pleadings and affidavits in an ex parte domestic violence proceeding without adequate review and on behalf of a party he claimed not to represent
• Lee knew or should have known that statements in the filings were false
• Lee also should have known that there was not a nonfrivolous basis in law and fact for filing them
• During an ex parte [one-sided] proceeding, Lee did not inform the tribunal of all material facts known to him that would have enabled the tribunal to make an informed decision.
• Engaged in a conflict of interest by continuing to advise the client about the domestic violence matter, despite his personal interest in avoiding criticism and embarrassment from the proceedings he had participated in

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Lee by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

And lastly, as one would suspect, Lee fails to mention the misconduct set forth above on his self-serving website at www.bettislawfirm.com. Apparently, he decided to conceal this highly relevant information from prospective clients for the purpose of not limiting his future victim pool.

As we speak (ca. September 2023), Lee practices his so-called brand of law with The Bettis Law Firm PLLC at 225 Broad Street in New Bern, North Carolina.
