Attorney Russell O. Vail of White Lake, MI; convict
In April 2012, the Attorney Discipline Board, Tri-County Hearing Panel #77 found Russell guilty of the following misconduct.
Russell was convicted in a federal court for submitting vouchers seeking payment for work that he did not actually perform, in connection with his duties as an investigator associated with granting security clearances to certain individuals.
Had Russell been a retired visiting judge in neighboring Ohio, he would never have been prosecuted for billing for hours he never worked. In fact, many retired judges in Ohio billed two or more counties for eight (8) hours of work on the same day. None of these serial scofflaws were ever prosecuted. At worst they were made to repay the state for the money they stole.
I would advise Russell to obtain a law license in Ohio and then become a judge if he wants to continue to receive payments for work he never performs.
As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Board punished Russell by gifting him with a complimentary 180- day suspension of his law license. This means that he’ll be able to practice his brand of law in October 2012.
It sure must be comforting for most Michiganders to know that there is yet another convicted criminal with a law license running amuck throughout the state.
As we speak (ca. June 2012) Russell will likely return to his office at 6100 Rosewood Parkway in White Lake, Michigan when his suspension ends in October 2012.
