Barrister Jacqueline Vallejo of London, UK; ethical goblin

The Bar of England and Wales by Gray’s Inn provided Jacqueline Vallejo with a law license in 1993 after she graduated from the University of Bristol School of Law.

The Bar Standards Board found Jackie guilty of engaging in the following misconduct,

  • Failed to observe her duty to the court in the administration of justice
  • Behaved in a rude and unprofessional manner
  • Refused to engage with prosecution counsel in relation to attempting to agree a schedule
  • On being ordered by the judge to engage with prosecution counsel in relation to the schedule, replied she would not comply with that order (Screw you, said Jackie!)
  • Said to the judge “if your Honor wants to do anything about me and my conduct that’s fine…Not a problem at all….so if your Honor wants to report me then so be it…I’d rather you do it sooner rather than later though”
  • In submissions to the judge Jackie said “don’t try to make me sound like an idiot”
  • When asked to sit down by the judge, Jackie replied “is that the fifth time your Honor has asked me to sit down?”
  • When the judge sought clarification about a witness’s evidence, Jackie stated (in front of the jury) “Well if your Honor wants to conduct the cross-examination, I’ll sit down.”
  • When the judge invited her to continue with cross examination, Jackie stated (in front of the jury) “No your Honor, your Honor can continue if you like.”
  • Criticized the judge (in front of the jury) by stating “When Mr. Brown gave evidence yesterday, he gave evidence in relation to hearsay and your Honor of course didn’t stop him, and of course there’s been no hearsay application from the Crown.”
  • Talked over and/or interrupted the judge
  • Adopted an abrupt, disrespectful and unhelpful tone, attitude and approach towards the judge
  • Was unduly argumentative with the judge;
  • When asked by the judge to clarify the issues in relation to certain evidence, Jackie replied “I’ve explained it already.”
  • During an interaction with the judge in relation to the provision of a Defence Statement stated “…I cannot force my client to provide a defense statement. What part of that does your honor not understand?”

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the apologists for Barrister Misfits sitting on the Bar Standards Board punished Jackie by gifting her with a complimentary 4-month suspension of her law license and assessed disciplinary costs of £2,000.00.

As we speak (ca. April 2023), Jackie practices at 379 Hendon Way in London, United Kingdom.
