Attorney Carl Collins III of Southfield, MI; convicted tax cheat

The state of Michigan presented Carl L. Collins III with a law license in 1996 after he graduated from the University of Detroit Law School. Carl also received a license to practice in Georgia in 2014.

FYI: This isn’t Carl’s First bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. He previously received a complimentary reprimand for engaging in a variety of misconduct.

The Tri-County Hearing Panel #81 found Carl guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Convicted by jury verdict of five counts of willfully filing false tax returns
  • Evidence established that Carl put money from his businesses into undisclosed Interest on Lawyer’s Trust Accounts, which are used to hold funds on behalf of clients, which allowed him to conceal the funds from his tax preparers and the IRS
  • The evidence also showed that Carl did not report over $2.6 million in income
  • Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Michigan Supreme Court punished Carl by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. January 2023), Carl practices his so-called brand of law at 20755 Greenfield Road in Southfield, Michigan.
