Attorney Alton Bates II of Baton Rouge, LA; ethical goblin

The state of Louisiana presented Alton Bates II with a law license in 2001 after he graduated from Southern University (LSU) School of Law.

The Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board found Alton guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to reasonably communicate with his client
  • Neglected client’s personal injury case
  • Settled client’s case without obtaining client permission to so act
  • Failed to pay client any money from his settlement of her case
  • Failed to prepare a written settlement/disbursement statement
  • Failed to decline or terminate representation when required to so act
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, misrepresentation, or dishonesty

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Louisiana Supreme Court punished Alton by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. September 2022), Alton practices his so-called brand of law at 637 Saint Ferdinand Street in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
