Attorney F. Benjamin Riek III of Shaker Heights, OH; crooked loser

The state of Ohio presented F. Benjamin Riek III with a law license in 1978 after he graduated from Case Western University Law School in Cleveland.

The Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline of the Ohio Supreme Court found William guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Commingling client funds with his personal funds
  2. Paid personal expenses with client trust funds (cheater)
  3. Overdrew client trust account on several occasions
  4. Gave personal creditors access to client trust account in order to pay personal expenses
  5. Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on his fitness to practice law
  6. Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty and/or misrepsenations
In one matter, Riek received a $10,000 settlement check payable to his client and then deposited it in his client trust account. Over the next two weeks he wrote over $8,000 in checks from the client trust account to pay himself and to pay for personal expenses. Shortly thereafter, the client (victim) tried to cash a $2,875.60 check written on the trust account but it bounced. When the client contacted Riek about the bounced check, he falsely said it had been dishonored by the bank because the $10,000 settlement check he received from the client’s employer bounced when the bank dishonored it. A week later, Riek lied again to the client by telling him that the $10,000 check cleared when he re-deposited it for the second time.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Riek by gifting him with a complimentary six-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. May 2012) Riek practices at 20611 Byron Road in Shaker Heights, Ohio which is a suburb of Cleveland.
