Attorney George T. Dearfield of Kettering, OH; ethical leprechaun

The state of Ohio presented George Timothy Dearfield with a law license in 1988 after he graduated from Capitol University Law School in Columbus.

The Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline of the Ohio Supreme Court found George guilty of the following misconduct in regards to a complaint filed by the Cincinnati Bar Association.
  1. Failed to deposit unearned fees in a trust account
  2. Designated a claimed fee as nonrefundable
  3. Conditioned refund of unearned fee to client (victim) on client’s withdrawal of grievance
  4. Refused to cooperate with Bar’s investigators
  5. Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  6. Refused to acknowledge the wrongful nature of his misconduct
  7. Engaged in deceptive practices during the disciplinary process
  8. Acted with a dishonest motive
George was hired to represent a client (victim) in a bankruptcy filing. The victim paid a $700 fixed fee upfront for the bankruptcy representation plus $399 for court filing fees and other fixed costs. After the last meeting with George, the victim told him he had settled with his creditors and did not want to file for bankruptcy. He also told George that he wanted his $399 back because there was no filing fee paid.
George had the chutzpah to claim that he could retain the $399 as a claimed fee even though it was for costs and he never incurred any costs. In addition, George’s bankruptcy fee was fixed at $700.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished William by gifting him with a complimentary one-year stayed suspension of his law license. In truth, George received absolutely no punishment of any kind.

In addition to being enablers for Attorney Misfits, the Justices sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court are also aspiring standup comedians. In their findings against George they had the chutzpah to say, “The primary goal of the attorney disciplinary system is to protect the public.” If this one-liner were true, at least 20,000 attorneys in Ohio would be seeking new employment opportunities.

As we speak (ca. May 2012) George practices law with the Dearfield Law Firm, LLC at 2555 South Dixie Drive in Kettering, Ohio.
