Attorney David Stokes of Madison, WI; thieving liar

The state of Wisconsin provided David G. Stokes with a law license in 1985 after he graduated from the University of West Virginia School of Law.

The Office of Lawyer Regulation found Davey guilty of engaging in the following misconduct

• Billed more than 691 hours for work he did not perform
• Fraudulent billing led to Davey earning an extra $27,000
• Charged with perjury for lying during testimony at a John Doe hearing
• Billed public defender’s office for work he did starting on June 18, 2002, even though he was not appointed to the case until August 30, 2002 
• Davey’s records contained about 628 fraudulent billing entries involving 40 public defender clients he was appointed to represent
• Billed the public defender’s office after criminal cases were dismissed or after he stopped representing the defendant
• Billed for court dates that were originally set on the calendar but did not take place
• Billed for work that occurred before his appointment to represent particular clients
• Billed for consultations with prosecutors that happened on Saturdays or Sundays, which never took place

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the West Virginia Supreme Court punished Davey by gifting his with a complimentary 2-year suspension of his law license.

And lastly, because Attorney Misfits in Wisconsin are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Davey was never criminally prosecuted for fraud and/or grand theft.
