Attorney Socrates Maranan of Philippines; ethical goblin

The Philippine Supreme Court provided Socrates G. Maranan with a law license in 1982 after he graduated from the University of the Philippines School of Law.

The Committee on Bar Discipline found Socrates guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to perform his duties as a notary public
  • Failed to keep his official notary seal safe and secure and only accessible to the notary public or the person authorized by him to use it
  • Engaged in a conflict of interest
  • Failed observe candor, fairness and loyalty in all of his dealings and transactions with his clients

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Republic of the Philippines Supreme Court punished Socrates by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license and a warning that similar conduct in the future would be dealt with more severely.

As we speak (ca. June 2021), Socrates practices his brand of law in Cuenca, Batangas, Philippines.
