Attorney Edward P. Brueggeman of Columbus, OH; moronic thief

The state of Ohio provided Edward Paul Brueggeman with a law license in 1972 after he graduated from the University of Cincinnati Law School.

The Columbus Bar Association’s Grievance Committee found Eddie guilty of the misconduct set forth below that involved several of his clients (victims).
  1. Engaging in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice law
  2. Failing to act with reasonable diligence in representing clients (slacker)
  3. Failed to keep client informed about status of case
  4. Failed to respond to client’s request for information
  5. Refused to cooperate with several disciplinary investigations (Eddie said, “Up Yours”)
  6. Refusing to return an unearned fee (thief)
  7. Failed to return client’s file after being discharged
One of Eddie’s victims hired him to perfect dissolution of a marriage. Even though he cheerfully accepted fees from the victim, he didn’t file the required court papers until a year after he was paid to do so.

In another case, a victim hired Eddie to prepare a deed; however, Eddie the Moron prepared it incorrectly causing it to be rejected by the .

When a victim hired Eddie to handle the disposition of an estate and paid him an initial fee, Eddie failed to complete the necessary work to close the estate. When the victim complained and demanded return of her file and unearned fees, Eddie retained the unearned fees and victim’s files. It took 15 months and the filing of an ethics complaint by the victim before Eddie returned her file and the unearned fees.

In aggravation, the committee found that Eddie had “displayed a pattern of misconduct and committed multiple offenses.

Eddie’s Hyperbolic (BS) Defense

Eddie claims he was diagnosed with dysthymia, which is a form of depressions. One of the typical characteristics is avoiding opportunities for failure. Obviously, Eddie didn’t go out of his way to “avoid opportunities for failure.” In fact, he did just the opposite!

It appears that Eddie missed his calling as a standup comedian. I’m sure Eddie could earn a few bucks doing gigs at the Funny Bone Comedy Club at the Easton Town Center in Columbus.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Edward by gifting him with a complimentary one-year suspension that was stayed. Put simply, Eddie didn’t receive any punishment at all. Isn’t Ohio a great country?

As we speak (ca. May 2012) Edward practices law with the Brueggeman Law Office at 2525 Tiller Lane in Columbus, Ohio.
