Judge Lafayette Young, Jr.; of Canton, NY; ethical leprechaun
Beginning in 2004, Lafayette succeeded in duping the voters of St. Lawrence County into electing him as a Justice of the Macomb Town Court.
In early 2012, the New York Commission on Judicial Conduct found Judge Young guilty of the following misconduct.
For five or six years, Robyne Petrie Platt was Lafayette’s girlfriend, and during this time they lived together. Lafayette grew up with and socialized with many members of Robyne’s family. Lafayette’s sister was previously married to Robyne’s brother.
When Robyne’s daughter Kimberly Ward filed a complaint against her ex-husband for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Lafayette issued a protective order in favor of Ms. Ward against her ex-husband.
There are many other examples of Lafayette intervening on behalf of friends and/or family members. Apparently, Lafayette was trying to prove that he’s really an active “Family Values” kind of guy. Lafayette's mantra is "A family member in need is a family member indeed?
As a consequence of misconduct, the Commission voted to remove Judge Young from the bench.
As we speak (ca. May 2012) Judge Young is suspended with pay until the Court of Appeals rules on his appeal of his removal.
Hopefully, the Court of Appeals tells Lafayette to take a hike and seek employment as a greeter at the local Wal-Mart.
