Attorney Matthew Stropes of Pekin, IL; disgusting thief

The state of Illinois provided Matthew James Stropes with a law license in 2005 after he graduated from St. Louis University School of Law.

The Illinois Registration and Disciplinary Commission found Matty guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty, or misrepresentation
• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
• Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice
• While serving as Public Guardian of Tazewell County Matty withdrew and converted a total of $32,242.71 in funds belonging to three disabled wards in cases in which he had been appointed Public Guardian (thief)
• Never received authorization to pay himself any fees
• Filed an estate accounting in one matter in which he omitted a payment he made to himself

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme punished Pete by gifting him with a complimentary 2-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. January 2021), Matty practices his brand of law at 334 Mary Street in Pekin, Illinois.
