Attorney Mark S. Pomerantz of New York City; deadbeat, cheapskate

The state of New York presented Mark S. Pomerantz with a law license in 1986 after he graduated from Fordham Law School.

In late 2007, Mark was charged in a felony complaint with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the 2nd and 3rd degrees, a class D felony and a class A misdemeanor, respectively. Mark subsequently pleaded guilty in Nassau County District Court to a reduced charge of attempted criminal possession of a forged instrument.

The forgery committed by Mark became known to police when his car was impounded due to several outstanding traffic tickets. Upon inspection the police discovered that the car bore registration sticker that had been forged to reflect a phony expiration date. Mark admitted he cut out numbers from the sticker of his wife’s car and affixed them to his vehicle’s sticker. Mark also altered his car’s registration sticker to make it reflect an inaccurate expiration date.

In addition, Mark knew his car had been uninsured for almost two years and that he had been driving with a suspended license had failed to answer a traffic summons and had several outstanding traffic violations and infractions.

The Hearing Panel also considered Mark’s failure to provide it with proof of satisfaction of a $20,610 New York State tax judgment as well as payments towards other outstanding liens and judgments. The outstanding liens and judgments include a $47,687 federal tax lien and judgments of $4,834 and $20,146.

As a consequence of his egregious misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New York Appellate court punished Mark by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. April 2012) Mark practices law with the firm of Mintz & Gold at 470 Park Avenue in New York City.
