Attorney Douglas Harris of Greensboro, NC; ethical ogre

The state of North Carolina presented Douglas S. Harris with a law license in 1981 after he graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Doug guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Knowing he had been terminated, Doug continued to negotiate with insurer by phone conference and orally agreed to settle the claim for $12,000 as full and final settlement
  • Failed to advise Allstate prior to it issuing the $12,000 settlement check that the client had terminated him
  • Failed to notify insurer that his client had fired him
  • Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
  • Misconduct involved multiple offenses
  • Failed to properly maintain client funds in a client trust account
  • Failed to reconcile his trust account balances quarterly
  • Engaged in a conflict of interest
  • Failed to maintain client ledgers from which all client funds could be accounted for
  • Failed to maintain complete records of funds belonging to his clients

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Doug by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 2-year suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Supreme Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Doug.

As we speak (ca. September 2020) Doug practices at 1698 Natchez Trace in Greensboro, North Carolina.
