Attorney Christopher Cicero of Columbus, OH; lying Dufus, repeater

The state of Ohio presented Christopher Cicero with a law license in 1988 after he graduated from the University of Toledo Law School.

On April 10, 2012, Chris was found in contempt of court and sentenced to five days in jail. Chris was given credit for the five days he already served since Friday, when Franklin County Municipal Judge Scott Vanderkarr sent him to a cell for lying about a speeding ticket. (John Futty, Columbus Dispatch)

According to court records, Chris was cited for speeding on March 21 and paid a $75 fine after the charge was changed to a headlight violation. However, Chris told Judge Vanderkarr that the amended charge had been approved by an assistant city attorney, which was a lie. When Vanderkarr found out, he sent Chris to jail.

An unreliable source indicated that Judge Vanderkarr became suspicious that Chris was not telling the truth because his lips were moving at the time. Judge Vanderkarr indicated that he is forwarding an ethics complaint against Chris with the Ohio Surpeme Court.

Vanderkarr’s ethics complaint will be the third time Chris has faced misconduct charges. The others are as follows:

1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree - 1997

In 1997, the Supreme Court of Ohio suspended Cicero’s law license for one year for engaging in the following misconduct:
  1. Lied regarding a sexual relationship with a judge while testifying in a deposition and at the disciplinary hearing (aka, perjury)
  2. Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree - 2010

This matter related to Chris divulging attorney-client confidences in regards to members of the Ohio State football team. Chris sent former coach Jim Tressell emails warning him that players were selling memorabilia or trading them for tattoos. The email correspondence caused a scandal and led to Tressell’s resignation.

Disciplinary counsel has recommended that the Supreme Court punish Chris by gifting him with a complimentary six-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. April 2012) Chris the Dufus practices law with the Cicero Law Firm at 1308 West Mound Street in Columbus, Ohio.
