Today's "Arrogant Ass” Award Winner is 5^th Circuit Appeals Judge Jerry Smith

Former President Ronald Reagan appointed Jerry Edwin Smith to the 5^th Circuit Court of Appeals in 1987 when he was 41-years-old. 

Smith wasn't appointed because he was the most qualified attorney available in Texas, Louisiana or Mississippi. He was appointed because he could be relied on to do the right thing for his backers and benefactors. Put simply, Jerry was the most qulified political hack running amuck in Texas.

As we all know, the U.S. Supreme Court recently held oral arguments on the issue of whether Obamacare is constitutional. While addressing a group of newspaper editors on April 3, Obama said in part: “I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordianry step of overtuning a law that was passed by a strong majority, a democratically elected Congress.”

Arrogant Jerry took umbrage at Obama's comments by issuing an order that the U.S. Attorney that said, “I woujld to have from you by noon on Thursday, that's about 48 hours from now, a letter stating what is the position of the attorney general and the Dept of Justice in regards to the recent statements by the president, stating specifcially in detail in reference to those statements what the authority is of the federal courts in this regard in terms of judicial review. That letter needs to be at least three pages single spaced, no less, and it needs to be specific.”

For one thing, I don't believe Jerry has the authority to issue such an assinine order. If I was the Attorney General, I'd tell Jerry to take his sham order and shove it. Moreover, if Jerry can order someone in the Obama Adiminstration to peform a task for his amusement, then Obama should be able to order that Jerry go to the nearest black board and write “I'm a Certified Ass.”

Congrats Jerry; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as an Arrogant Ass; you are far too modest.
