Judge William Edwards Jr. of Mt. Vernon, NY; ethical ogre

The state of New York presented Ashley Harada with a law license in 1984 after he graduated from Columbia University School of Law.

FYI: Billy has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past thirty-three (33) years. Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater Westchester County area was about to offer him a good paying job.

The New York Commission on Judicial Conduct found Billy guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Acted as daughter’s attorney in Family court on at least three occasions despite prohibition against full-time judges from engaging in the practice of law
  • Lent the prestige of his judicial office to advance her private interest
  • Improperly invoked his judicial title in several instances during court appearances on behalf of his daughter

While knowingly engaging in the illegal practice of law in representing his daughter, Billy had the chutzpah to make the following statements in court during said representation.

  • "Now I have to state that I happen to be a sitting - I'm not looking for any favoritism.”
  • “I’ve been on Family Court for five years, thirteen years on the bench in Mount Vernon.”
  • “I'm imploring the Court that they dismiss these allegations and dismiss the charges, these specific charges on those dates, with prejudice so she doesn't
  • have to come back here again and have me come back here because I'm gonna defend my kid.”
  • “I can't represent people as you know as a judge, but I can represent family members.”
  • “So, I' II come here and defend this zealously if I have to."

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the New York Commission on Judicial Conduct punished Billy by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. February 2020), Billy continues to sit as Judge of the Mount Vernon City Court, Westchester County in Mount Vernon, New York.
