Attorney Peter Macuga, II of Detroit; serial drunk, convict

The state of Michigan presented Peter Macuga, II with a law license in 1977 after he graduated from the University of Detroit Law School.

In early 2010, Pete the Lush was convicted of the offense of operating under the influence of Alcohol. Since this was Pete’s third offense, it was a felony. Because Attorney Misfits in Michigan that are convicted of felonies are held to a lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Pete never served any time in jail.

Subsequently, a Tri-County hearing panel set about determining the appropriate punishment for three-time loser Pete.

In its findings, the comedians on the panel said they were “convinced that Peter poses no threat to the public by virtue of his managed addiction.” The panel found Pete’s testimony that he doesn’t drink any more to be truthful. Since Peter’s lips were moving at the time, they should have suspected that he wasn’t telling the truth.

As a consequence of being a convicted felon, the Attorney Disciplinary Board punished Pete the Lush by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

I guess Detroiters can be proud to have the opportunity to employ yet another convicted felon when seeking legal help. Isn’t Michigan a great country?

As we speak (ca. April 2012) Peter practices law when sober with Macuga, Liddle & Dubin PC at 975 E. Jefferson Avenue in Detroit.
